Hair Transplants in London

At Landmark Hair Clinic, we have nearly twenty years’ worth of experience in helping men and women across the UK to resolve their hair loss issues. Although hair loss can simply be a natural part of the aging process, it may be an unexpected result of a new medication, severe stress and more. Whatever the cause, we can help with a range of solutions, including hair transplants.

Our London Clinic

If you’re looking for a hair loss solution in or near London, we carry out hair transplants from our London clinic. With clinics also in Chichester and Bristol, we boast two clinics located in the capital city. Our non-surgical service centre is in Welbeck Street, near our surgical service centre and main clinic in Harley Street.

The Hair Transplant Treatment

The hair transplant treatment involves removing hair follicles from a donor area (for example, the lower back of the scalp) and these are then placed into a recipient site (for example, the top of the head). This is a very precise process, and requires the individual removal of each follicle one at a time, with each follicle containing approximately one to four hairs. These hairs are used to populate the area which is bald or thinning.

The Donor Site

Some clients may be concerned about where the hair is taken from in order to provide the hair transplant. The donor site chosen is usually an area that is genetically resistant to balding. This means that the area will be impacted only minimally for a short period of time, as hair continues to grow in this area.

Additional Hair Transplant Areas

Whilst hair transplants are most commonly used to restore thinning hair or bald spots on the scalp, there are ways of providing hair transplants for other areas. For example, a client may wish to restore hair in the eyelashes, eyebrows, moustaches or beard. It can also be applied for areas where you may have suffered from scarring, whether from an accident or previous inadequate hair transplants or facelifts.

The Hair Transplanting Techniques

There are two types of techniques that can be used for hair transplantation. These are known as FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or strip harvesting. FUE refers to the process already outlined, where each follicular unit is removed individually. On the other hand, strip harvesting is generally preferred for those who require lots of grafts to fill a larger area with hair. Each strip of hair follicles taken covers around 1–1.5 x 15–30 cm and through this process, each follicle will sit in a predetermined area where the surgeon makes tiny holes for optimum density and pattern. As a result, you will later develop a realistic and consistent hair pattern result.

Health and Safety

Although a surgical procedure, hair transplants are considered minimally invasive and will take just one day to complete. Both types of treatments will be undertaken with local anaesthetic. Following the surgery, you can expect some swelling or redness in the treatment area, with the healing process taking between five to seven days. During this time, across the span of the days and weeks after the treatment, you will observe the outline of your new hairline taking shape and within the year, your hair will be fully regrown.
